N-Scene Back After Shutdown

In ‘off-topic but related’ news, the internets best known Nintendo Game Save Sharing Community is back after being shut down under mysterious circumstances by Yahoo! Groups.

The new site is now up and can be found at http://www.gci.net.tc/. Also there are a large number of Nintendo game saves ready for download via the site above at via a direct link: http://www.saves.net.tc/access/N-Scene_GameSave_Pack.zip (registration required).

For more information or if you’d like to join the team please feel free to contact Dave at nscene@gamil.com

GTA: SA Gallery Viewer Repack

Found a small bug with the inbuilt HTML template today so I’ve fixed it and put up a repack of 1.3, it’s the same link as before 🙂

From the changelog:

v1.3
Repack:
+Fixed: Corrected and tidied built in HTML template
+Changed: Removed replacement when using a template.html file
Base file:
+Added: You can now view you photos in a slideshow
+Added: you can now create a html gallery complete with thumbnails
+Changed: Program exe name has changed to GTAGV.exe
+Added: Now supports XP Themes
+Fixed: I’m sure I fixed something 😀

Here’s an example of the default gallery generated by the new HTML Gallery feature (relatively spoiler free but if you don’t want anything ruining at all, don’t look)

For those asking which save transfering device to use, I personally use Datels Max Drive but you are free to use whatever device you can get hold of and PS2 Save builder Supports 🙂

GTA:SA Gallery Viewer update and guide

I’ve had a few questions from people who do not know how to extract the GALLERY.DAT file from their save so I’ve knocked up a little guide for the FAQ section.

The process is the same regardless of what save format you use however it does not cover getting the save to your PC, please refer to your product instruction manual for information on how to do this.

There’s a small update to GTA:SA Gallery viewer, I’ve fixed the stupid mistake I made on the Extract All Images option, it now works as expected 🙂

PSTwo images

darcsyde has sent in news of some spanky new PSTwo images, from what I gather they have disabled the use of Datel’s standard memory cards (the ones that require a disc to activate) however Datel have recently released their new range of memory cards with Magic Gate broken so not to worry eh :D! (way to go Hawk! ;))

Updates? No replies? What’s going on???

To answer why there’s still no word on the PS2 Save Builder update and why emails are going unanswered…
I have no internet access, I’m sat at a net cafe writing this :-/

It’s all I can do to keep the site going (currently the site uses 6 gigs of bandwidth a month which means extra money from my pocket) if you have a few dollars/pounds/euros spare feel free to donate them to keep the site running 🙂

As it stands I’m going to make a concerted effort to talk to vector about releasing the PS2 Save Builder update, put up an new update I promised to host and answer the back log of emails.

I hope to get myself sorted and have net access as soon as possable so more regular info and updates can continue without having to pass the site over for custody but for now any donations are gratefully received and will be put towards the basic running costs of the site 🙂

Banner ad and important news

We don’t normally run banner ads but this is something I thought was worth advertising…

In February 2002, the European Commission proposed a directive that would legalise software patents. However, the European Parliament decided in its Plenary Vote of 24th September 2003 to fix all the loopholes in this proposal and explicitly banned software patents.

Currently, the European Council of Ministers is discussing this directive. Their internal working party proposes to simply discard all clarifying amendments from the Parliament. They want to make everything patentable.

That is not an option Europe is willing to accept. We showed them this on 27 August 2003. We will show them again on 14 April 2004.

In protest we are running the banner ads and will be closed on the 14th of April 2004 for the entire day, if you wish to know more or participate in this protest please visit http://demo.ffii.org

icon.sys format and .xps file breakdowns

Included in the nPort source release were Losers notes covering two of the files found within a PS2 save as well as a breakdown of the Xport save formats.

I’ve quickly converted the icon.sys and Xport V2 save format documents to html and added them to the documents section, I’ll add the remaining two documents soon.

Site handover

Due to a conflict of interests I will no longer be the main contributer to this site and will be relinquishing control of it to a friend.

I will still keep my @35.176.43.5 email address as it is my primary email address and will still answer questions on existing software I have written etc, however any further software from myself will support only .xps and possably .xpo
Obviously if this changes then updates will be issued etc etc 🙂

I will continue to maintain any tools that require it and offer what support I can but general questions and more will be answered by Retinal, the new custodian of the site.
He has his own @ps2savetool.com email address and will be tending the site in my forseeable absence 🙂

Please note, I am no longer liable or responcible for any software, news or information posted on this site, my responcibility ends at what I have done so far 🙂
Don’t worry about site updates etc, they’ll be just as regular 🙂

Thanks for all your support guys.. Xianaix, Guichi, Vector, Sjeep and whoever else that I have forgotten at this late hour who have helped me get this far 🙂
